YouTube FLV to AVI Suite Enterprise 2.3.4 Was Released Today

If you want to grab content from YouTube, Myspace or Google video and other similar websites, there are a bunch of applications that can help you do it, but none that I heard of has the power of Easiest Utils' YouTube FLV to AVI Suite Enterprise. Since these guys released the last version of this application today, I think it's a good idea to tell you a few words about it...
YouTube FLV to AVI Suite Enterprise

YouTube FLV to AVI Suite Enterprise, as its name says, is a software suite that converts FLV files to the more flexible AVI format. Apart from this, you can also use it to grab the FLV files right from the web, so no other tools are needed!

The included download manager supports "Turbo" mode, multithreading, and even resuming of broken downloads. The file converter supports all FLV file types, video and audio, and the Enterprise version comes with a lot of built in sites, ready to use.

The minimum system requirements of this program are pretty low, since a computer running Windows 98 and above, with a Pentium III 500MHz CPU or equivalent and 64MB of memory should be enough.

If you are interested in using this program, the shareware version can be downloaded from here, while the licensing price is $39.95.

WinAce Is Still Alive

In the last decade, I have seen too many good programs fading out, and each time this happens, I feel like a part of me is dying. WinAce is not as old as RAR, ZIP or the ancient ARJ (that one is still around, it seems), but its last version was almost 2 years old, and I was beginning to think this is the end. Since version 2.65 was released in July 2006, it's great to say that today, on the 23rd of November, WinAce 2.69 became available!
WinAce

According to the official site, WinAce now has a new option for licensing it. Instead of paying 29 bucks, you can freely use this powerful archiver as an adware application, because you have to install and run AdVantage as long as you want to have your WinAce copy run as a fully registered version.

Unfortunately, I didn't see any information about support for Vista, multi-core CPU optimizations and other things that would be really useful for someone interested in buying this program, or at least trying this new version.

It's sad to say it, but I think that WinAce just took one step closer to the edge, and if the next one is going to be the same, it may be their last...

Removing the Go Button in Firefox

The path to a perfect Firefox browser is very long, and depends on the individual needs of every user, but removing the elements of the interface you're not using a step we have to take. After removing the Close buttons, a worthy idea is to take out the Go button. After all, I never use it, and I don't know if there is anyone who does.
This button will go away

Here's how to remove the useless green button that you can notice in the image above...

- Type "about:config" in the address bar and press Enter.
First step

- Use this value to filter the available settings: "browser.urlbar.hideGoButton".
Finding what we have to change

- Double click the highlighted field and it's all done.
No more Go button

As you can see above, the Go button goes away as soon as you change the setting from "true" to "false", and if you want to ever bring this useless button back, simply go through the same steps. These being said & done, we're one step closer to the perfect Firefox, don't you think?

How To Remove the Close Button From Tabs in Firefox

Since yesterday I introduced the Tab Mix Plus extension, when we talked about how to enable multiple tabs rows in Firefox, today I'll tell you about another useful tweak that can be applied to Firefox using this extension.

Because even when we are using multiple rows, space is never enough, hiding the Close buttons from the tabs may be a good idea, especially since you can easily close the current tab by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+W, so here's how to do this...

- First of all, install the Tab Mix Plus extension. If you don't have it yet, check the article I mentioned above and you'll find the link there.

- After installing the extension, open the Tools menu and click on Tab Mix Plus Options.
Opening the Options area

- In the Display>Tab Bar area, be sure to deselect the radio button next to Close tab button.
Change this setting

- Press Apply, and the changes will be applied right away! There is no need to restart the browser, simply enjoy your result - a better look for Firefox and no chance for you to close a tab by mistake, when trying to select it...
The result

How To Change Default Download Location in Firefox

I know the quick tip I have for you now may seem to be trivial, and if you think so, don't take it as a tip, but as a reminder. For example, every time I install Firefox on my computer or a foreign machine, I forget to change the download location, and the files are downloaded to the Desktop folder, until I remember to change this setting.

On the other hand, if you're a beginner, this is a good start in customizing this browser, so here we go... This is a pretty straightforward procedure, so everyone should be able to do it without encountering any problems.

- Open the Tools menu and left click Options.
Opening the Options area

- In the Main tab of the Options window, press the Browse button next to "Save files to", as you can see below.
Select the location of all future downloads

- Once you have located your favorite downloads folder, you should also disable showing the download dialog each time you grab a file from the Web.
These are my settings

If you choose to disable the download dialog, you don't have to worry about not being able to check file download progress, because you can bring up the Downloads window by pressing Ctrl+J. This is it, and I really hope you'll find it useful. Good luck!
