Deck Design Software

We all love to have a big home with "a white fence" as they say as a clichee in all the romantic movies. And we all would love to purchase the perfect home, all empty and clean and just perfect. Well, things are rarely like this and most of the times you have to invest some more money and a lot of time to repair and make the necessary adjustements to the new house. It is new for you, but it rarely happens to be newly built indeed. In this case usually the men devide into two categories: the businessmen who aren't very good at making things themselves and who will pay for a handy man to come and fix the problem and the family men who want to do everything themselves. The intention of both categories is admirable, but the result is always far from the one expected by the family members. This happens because the handy man you hired to do your job makes things his own way, not according to your instructions and he does not have your vision any way. In the second case most of the results will be disastruous, as even if your husband is very willing to do things right he does not possess the necessary skills and knowledge. That is why I think the perfect solution for a happy family living in a house with a new deck is to purchase a deck design software first and after the design is ready to go to work and put it into practice.

If you start looking for deck design software on the internet you will notice that there aresome packages that deal with home and landscape design but also have some features integrated for the deck design and there are some other software packages that deal exclusively with deck design. I recommend the latter variant, as it offers more features for what you are interested in and you don't have to purchase the whole package just to use 10% of it. Such a deck design software is useful first of all because you can actually see the result of your ideas and you have the possibility to decide if a certain change is good or not, if it fits the profile of your house or if it is too big, too small or just ugly. You can "see" all these things before you can actually start working, so the damage is avoided. If you can see that your decision is not the best one, there is no need to demolish the deck after you have worked hard because now you can use the "undo" command and return to the intial position and design. Not to mention the fact that once the project is done and the deck design finished you can use it to convince your wife in case she does not want the deck or you can even show it to the inspector that is supposed to give you the authorization to build your deck. It is much easier when you can prove you have a solid and achievable plan.

In my search on the internet I could find quite a lot of helpful software , but as I mentioned before most of the desck design software was integrated in a wider software dealing with home design or landscaping design. But I am pretty stubborn when I want to find something, so I found some specialized deck design software: Do It Yourself Deck Designer, TurboFloorPlans Home and Landscape Pro and Punch! Home and landscape design suite.

The first one I appreciate as being the most appropriate one, but this is according to my taste. You should try all the demo versions first to see which one suits you best and after that purchase the perfect software for you. Ok, so the first one is Do it yourself deck designer. As the name suggests it this software is meant to assist you in your attempt to build a deck by yourself. This software is the perfect solution for beginners and amateurs as it offers the basics of deck design software. In my opinion this is more than enough. Ok, you don't have all the features of a more advanced landscaping design software like flowers and curves and I don't know what else, but it is perfect for an unexperienced user as myself. First of all it is not compatible with Windows Vista, only with Windows XP, which might be an inconvenient for some people. You can import your own photos there and work on it in a three dimensional environment and that is the most important feature , I guess, as it shows you a realistic view of what your deck will look like when all the work is done. You have more than 70 deck building plans included that you can choose from, you can create single or multilevel decks or even a standalone deck if you want. You can see different types of materials and place everything in a 3d plan. You can try different patterns, shapes , even stairs and when your plan is done you can print it on paper and use it as guidance when your real work begins. You can do that yourself or show your plans to the contracted constructors. I guess it is the perfect choice for $40 if you only want the basics.

TurboFloorPlans Home and Landscape Pro is a bit more expensive, about $90, compatible with Windows 2000 and up and, of course, offers more features than the first software. It offers a lot of features and additional material to choose from: sliding doors, windows, shape your deck in whatever way you like. All these and a lot more can be done if you use the Deck wizard available that is very helpful and guides you through all the phases of designing a deck. First you begin with the basics: the deck's shape, size, decking orientation and curves, if any. then you can add all the additional elements: stairs, windows, materials and so on. Of course there is the 3D model that is displayed on your computer screen and finally the cost estimation, which is very important so that you can make plans for your future action.

Punch is quite similar with the above mentioned deck design software, but it still brings a few personal features that differentiate it from other similar software: the QuickStart tool that allows you to put your haouse and deck together on the designed plan in order to see the whole ensemble and the Green feature that is very fashionable nowadays and that gives you very informed tips about how to design your deck and what materials to use in order to save energy and to be eco-friendly.
I hope I convinced you of the usefulness of this software, so let's build a deck together now!
