These days use of Windows and Linux is widespread. There are certain people that favor Windows for some reasons and people who support Linux for certain good reasons are also there. Also, there are people who consider making changes from Linux to Windows or from Windows to Linux. Explore the following account that brings Windows vs. Linux and comprehend the main qualities and drawbacks of these operating systems.

1. Cost: You can run Microsoft Windows USD 50.00 – USD150.00 per every license copy. Most of the variants of Linux come at a much lower price than Microsoft Windows and are also available for free of cost.

2. Reliability: Microsoft Windows has made wonderful improvements in dependability over the last few versions of Windows but, it still can’t go with the reliability of Linux. A great number of Linux versions and variants are reliable. They can time and again run for months and years without demanding to be rebooted.

3. Hardware: The number of Microsoft Windows users and the wider driver support is enormous. So, Windows enjoy a much larger maintenance for hardware devices and a fine majority of hardware manufacturers will prop up their products in Microsoft Windows. Great advancements in hardware support for Linux are made by Linux companies. Today Linux has the capability to support maximum hardware devices and is doing so. Though, numerous companies still do not provide drivers or support for their hardware in Linux.

4. Open Source: Microsoft Windows is not an open source. The majority of Windows programs are not open source. Loads of the Linux variants and numerous Linux programs are open source and allow users to customize or alter the code the way they wish to.

5. Software: As the users of Microsoft Windows are numerous, the selection of available software programs, games and utilities for windows is a much larger.

Linux has a great variety of available software programs, utilities and games. Nevertheless, Windows has a much larger selection of available software.

6. Software Price: Though Windows offer utilities, software programs and games for free, maximum programs cost somewhere around USD 20 to USD 200 per copy.

As in case of Linux, many among the available software programs, utilities and games are open source or freeware. Even multifarious programs like OpenOffice, Gimp, StarOffice and wine are available at a low cost or for free.

7. Ease: Numerous advancements and changes of Microsoft have made use of operating system much easier, easier than Linux. Though maximum Linux variants have improved usability ease, but still new computer users find Windows much easier.

8. Support: Windows has enormous amount of available online documentation, its own help section and books on every Windows version.

With Linux, great amount of online documentation and help, books and support are available.

9. Security: Windows operating system is the most exposed to viruses and other attacks.

Linux continues to be a very safe operating system.

Windows vs. Linux is an interesting topic to be discussed whether one is better or the other. Only the users can decide which one they would like to use according to their choice and preferences but it can’t be denied that both of them have their own unique merits.
