DivX 6.8 Was Just Released

One of the main competitors to Microsoft's Windows Media Video, Apple's QuickTime and RealNetworks' RealVideo media compression applications (and their proprietary media formats, of course), the notorious DivX Codec software, just got a new name tag, bringing the current version number to 6.8. Of course, this is not all, so let's see what do we have here...
The DivX logo

Started back in 1998 as a hacked version of the Microsoft MPEG-4 Version 3 video codec, the DivX codec turned into a serious multimedia package, including the codec, the player, as well as a media container format, called "DivX Media Format", or simply "DMF". The latest version of the package contains the codec, the player, the converter and the web player, which seems to become a better alternative each day to the existing solutions for streaming high-quality multimedia content on the Web.

To make things clear, here's what you can download for free from the official site - the Player (version 6.6), the Community Codec 6.8, and the Web Player 1.4, as well as 15-days trials for DivX Converter 6.5 (including the MPEG-2/DVD plug-in) and the DivX Pro Codec 6.8. The whole package has less than 17MB in size, and the price of the DivX Pro package is $19.99.

These being said, I will also add that these applications are less than a day old, so be careful when handling them, they're absolutely hot!
