Features of Google Docs

Google Docs is a real time collaborative tool for editing amongst users and non-users.  Users are notified of changes in any specific regions through e-mail. It supports two ISO standard document formats- Open Document and Office Open XML. It includes support for proprietary formats like .doc and .xls.

1. Upload Any File: You can save, access and share larger files that have nothing to do with spreadsheets, documents or presentations. You can upload your file to Google Docs account and access it anywhere.

2. Shared Folders: Google has rolled out the skill to share folders and collaborate on files in that folder.  To share a folder, right-click on a folder in your Google Docs account and the share option will appear.  Two methods of sharing the folder are there- inviting people to collaborate by adding their email and sending them a note. You can set it also. Thus, anyone with a provided link can view or edit it which you can share with people you want to have access.

3. DOCX Import: Earlier, it was tricky to open and use a Word 2007 file if right version of Microsoft Office wasn’t there.  Google Docs is compatible here.  Uploading the files and converting them for editing from within Google Docs is easy now. Google Docs is free of cost and the amenities it provides may offset some of the difficulties.

4. Bulk Upload: Google has the ability to upload more than a file at a time. It works in the same way as normal file selection.  You have numerous options.  You can hold the Ctrl button and click on the individual files you want as selected.  You can hold the Shift button; click the first file on the list, then click the last file to select all files that are in between.  Then click and drag, drawing a box while selecting all files in the path of your mouse. Google allows you to upload all the selected files in a batch.

5. Email as an Attachment: We are also allowed for emailing files as attachments. As you can now upload any kind of file you want, it makes sense that you are allowed to send those files as email attachments if you require to.  As a matter of fact, the feature gets even better when you begin sending Google Document files as email attachments and they are transformed into functional offline file formats.

Sharing files through an email attachment is as simple as right clicking on the file to be shared, hanging over the ‘Share’ option, and clicking Email as attachment.  If it is a Google Document, you are provided with more options as far as the file format goes. So, Google apps for online document management is really a handy introduction in document management sphere.
