IPTV Software

IPTV stands for Internet Protocol Television. It is a system which delivers digital television services using Internet Protocol Suite over a networked infrastructure. Earlier this service was delivered by using traditional methods such as satellite signals, broadcasting radio signals and cable formats but now a packed switched network i.e., Internet and Broadband makes it convenient for the television world.

IPTV software’s journey began from 1994 when ABC’s World news, a television program broadcasted its show for the first time over the internet. In this time period (from 1994 to 2010), it has crossed several milestones and today the services of this software has become the need of 400 million users. In the past, due to the low broadband connections and expensive installing of IPTV it was less appreciated by internet providers but now it becomes the golden opportunity for the major telecommunication providers to generate the revenue. IPTV is rapidly expanding globally in which Europe and Asia are the leading countries where the number of subscribers are increasing day by day. According to market analysis, 83 million IPTV subscribers will be increased globally till 2013 with respect of 28 million subscribers in 2009.

IPTV Services:

The reason behind continuous expansion of IPTV subscribers is the services provided by it which can be explained by following ways:

  • You can take the advantage of watching live TV serials or shows which ensure to deliver the best entertainment with enhanced features across your television screens and PCs.

  • Now you don’t need to panic if you missed your favorite TV serial or show because it facilitates to catch up again a serial by watching its replay.

  • IPTV becomes the best platform for the video lovers who put their online demand to watch their favorites across many platforms such as TV, PC and mobile screens. It gives liberty to experience world class TV and Video services- anytime and anywhere.

IPTV Security:

Whenever an IPTV customer sends any request, a secure point to point communication is established between the server and the end user. There is a Set Top Box or PC at the customer’s end that works as a decoder. After receiving the acknowledgement, the streaming server generates and sends back a response to the end user over the network where Set Top Box decrypts these encrypted files to avoid content piracy.

Earlier encryption algorithms were also used with satellite and TV broadcasts but IPTV uses these algorithms with Digital Rights Management, an access control technology which protects digital content from unauthorized access.

IPTV Limitations:

  • IPTV breaks the connection if it finds any delay and packet loss because of its sensitive nature.

  • It requires high speed or bandwidth in order to deliver moving pictures with high quality so with the low speed bandwidth connection it cannot transfer the right number of frames per second which reduces the service quality.

  • There are many countries such as UK which are struggling against the bandwidth restriction (provide 3-5 Mbit/s) that allow limited number of TV channels to be delivered.

Today most of the IPTV service providers are forced to adopt wired home networking technologies due to the limitation of wireless technologies.
