Open Source Trading Software

If you ever had the crazy idea that the underlying structure of the global finance industry uses Microsoft products as trustworthy servants, you should think again. It may be true that Microsoft's Windows is (still) a dominant operating system for home users, but Linux and open source solutions, together with various in-house solutions are powering the Wall Street every day. Now, a new open source trading software just hit the market, and it could help open source win a significant market share in this delicate industry!

According to its own developers, the Marketcetera Trading Platform, which the developers believe is the first of its kind, aims to offer a cost-effective alternative to building a custom software platform in-house.

The project has been in the making for over 2 years now, and its parents are a pair of Stanford computer scientists, namely Graham Miller and Toli Kuznets, who created this automated trading platform using Java, keeping in mind two major features: rapid deployment and ease of extension.

The Marketcetera Trading Platform provides APIs, as well as a JRuby scripting engine, allowing complex trading strategies to be implemented by writing only a few lines of code!

Although this product just reached version 1.0, it has been available for some time already, and over 20 financial institutions adopted it so far. I don't know what do you think about this, but I strongly believe we're not facing a crisis, only the dawn of a new age, and Marketcetera Trading Platform is one of its messengers...

At Last! Standford, Americans and prominence in computing using open source. The worm has turned. I hope this is the beginning of an avalanche of American innovation in the programming world as large as the pre-Microsoft era or bigger. We must never let corporate fools constipate our nation with pablum like windows again. We can and we will write good programs in spite of the crippling effect of pre-digested, code-isolated, poorly working, expensive, gobbledygook as we have suffered through over the last decade or more! Bravo, and Happy Computing!
