The Android Has Just Arrived

If you checked SoftDistrict yesterday, probably you also read this article, but if you did not, don't worry - while those were speculations, today I just found out about the real thing! This morning, Google announced that its mobile apps team developed a new mobile OS, called Android!
Android - a way of the future

While we can't talk about the gPhone yet, that's not a problem. Until the real gPhone arrives, we could have a lot of mobile terminals running Google's OS, and that could be a great advantage. After all, while iPhone's OS is a stripped-down Mac OS, it wasn't tested in real life conditions on different devices, as it's going to happen with Google's Android.

Now, let's get back to Android for a while, shall we? Based on a Linux kernel and using only open source code, the new mobile OS from Google will reveal its secrets to handset manufacturers without asking a single penny, under the Apache license.

Even more, in exactly a week, an early look at the Android Software Development Kit will be released to the public, allowing those interested to build rich mobile applications for phones using this mobile OS. Since I mentioned this, it's also interesting to know that Google's partners on this project include Motorola, HTC, Samsung, and LG, at this time, and probably more should follow pretty soon.

This launch comes as a part of Google's announcement regarding the Open Handset Alliance, "a group of more than 30 technology and mobile companies who have come together to accelerate innovation in mobile and offer consumers a richer, less expensive, and better mobile experience".

What happened today could be the start of something bigger even than the iPhone fever, but we should wait and see. For me, the climax of Google's adventure in the mobile world would be to see Android running on the iPhone, no matter if this is going to be official or done by some hardware geeks in their hi-tech garage...

Of course, if you see things different, feel free to share your opinions with me, I'll be glad to find out what other people think about this whole thing. In the meantime, stay tuned, because I'll be back with fresh information about this topic as soon as possible, you can bet on this!

    Wow! That's a lot!
This could become the perfect OS, specially because it is Linux-based.
