I have the 0.9.8a version installed on windows XP and its huuuuuuuuuuuuge disappointment! VLC used to rock, not anymore i'm afraid. Pity though....hope they rectify the hiccups i has. When i say hiccups, i mean exactly that cuz the image keeps skipping from one frame to the next. The audio goes along fine but the video is TERRIBLE!!!!!! Ciao!

I've been checking the different 0.9.x versions of VLC and they have all had problems on my winXP SP1 notebook.

Many useful features in the 0.9.x but can't really use it without pulling my hair out. Many videos have problems playing, it doesn't save basic setting--set the equalizer and it resets after each song?!?!!?? Crashes if I use ctrl+Q or X. Doesn't jump very well either. All in all it seems a MAJOR step back for VLC! It was always VERY stable prior to 0.9. . . I'm using Mplayer as default now.

Doesn't handle media nearly as well as the previous version. I'm running on a fast XP machine. Videos take quite some time to start, and when they do I get audio only for the first few seconds, before the video kicks in later. I often get freezes (video freezes, audio keeps going) and what appear to be decoder problems.

Such a shame - the aesthetic and usability upgrades in this version are really nice, but I'll take the reliability and comprehensive feature set of previous versions any day. I'm going to roll back until these issues are resolved.
